Cat sleeping patterns

Nobody is sure why cats sleep so much. Cats evolved from a long line of hunters and predators?

Most wild cats use huge amounts of energy when they hunt and they need to conserve energy in between their hunting activity. When a cat (or any living thing for that matter) sleeps, it uses very little energy. The longer a cat sleeps, the more energy it conserves and the less often it has to hunt. Although today's domestic cats don't really need to hunt, their genes are still the same as before we took them into our homes as pets. - http://www.rambhai.com/Miscellaneous/cat-breeds

Javanese Breed Information

The Javanese cats were developed from the Siamese. Colorpoint Shorthairs and Balinese about 1978. The product was a new color Balinese cat or Balinese in Colorpoint colors. The Cat Fanciers Association did not recognize these new colors and points of the Balinese because the Balinese breed just had the four-color groups. In 1979 they were turned down by the CFA but were told that they would accept registration under a new breed name. The name of Javanese was created because of the closeness of the island of Java next to Bali. This breed was recognized as the Javanese in 1979 and began doing shows. The standard by which they follow is the same as the Balinese. By 1986 Championship status was granted to the Javanese.

Cat or Kitten

Cat or Kitten?
Very few people can resist the temptation of owing a kitten. Many are in the mistaken belief that since kittens are cute, playful and cuddly, they're "babies." Indeed they are. But it should also be kept in mind that by the time a kitten is ready to stay with your family, he can jump walk, run, and climb. In just a few months, they are past the initial cute, cuddly stage and metamorphoses into a full-grown cat. http://blogs.grab.com/msary50/830588

When you have decided that you are ready to shoulder the responsibility of a cat, you can find some varieties of cat at pet stores or get your cat from a breeder or adopt an abandoned cat from your local humane society. When choosing a cat, it is worth considering what kind will be most appropriate for your home. http://www.indoblogger.com/msary50/31120

If you are going for pedigree cat, a wide range of pedigree breeds is available. According to one estimate, there are more than hundred different recognized breeds and color types of pedigree domestic cat.

The greatest benefit of purchasing a pedigree kitten or cat is that the owner knows what he’s getting. For instance, there is every possibility that a well-bred Siamese will be vocal, naughty and extremely demanding of your attention. Apart from this, buying a pedigree gives the indication of the adult size of your kitten.

Also known as moggies, mixed breeds cats come from a completely non-pedigree background. These types of cats are often generally healthier than pedigree cats. If you are already the proud owner of at least one cat, then bringing a kitten to your home will be a good proposition to avoid friction with the existing one. A kitten can stay more harmoniously than an adult.

Male or Female?
It does not make any such great difference to buy a male or female cat. If they are neutered, you can choose any of the two. As a matter of fact there are slight behavioral differences between them. http://catillness.today.com/2009/05/13/12

After deciding the breed, it is advisable to visit the kittens for some time to know their personality traits. An owner has to consider a lot of factors before deciding which kitten to take home. Prominent among them are personality, activity level and tolerance. What is most important is how the kittens fit in with your lifestyle.

It is better to choose outgoing kittens, though not too aggressive, than the timid ones. The timid kittens take long time to change.

Pregnancy and Birth in Cats

How long does a cat pregnancy last? What is the average litter size? How should orphan kittens be raised? Find answers to these and other questions on normal cat pregnancies, fetal development, birth, and care of the newborn kittens.

Your cat can be pregnant for 60-67 days. The easiest way to remember is that humans are pregnant for nine months and cats are pregnant for nine weeks. During this gestation period your cat will gain weight and you will begin to see her stomach swelling. Usually this will begin around the fourth week. http://www.bloglines.com/blog/catfood?id=12

Around two days before your cat gives birth their mammary glands will grow in size and will begin to produce milk. Her appetite will begin to drop and her temperature will decrease close to 99 degrees. She will become restless and will be desperately trying to finish her nesting. She may also begin to vomit and you may notice some vaginal discharge before the contractions start. http://sitehoppin.com/User:Msary80

C++ is a general-purpose programming language. It is regarded as a middle-level language, as it comprises a combination of both high-level and low-level language features.[1] It was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup starting in 1979 at Bell Labs as an enhancement to the C programming language and originally named "C with Classes". It was renamed to C++ in 1983.
http://pieceoftexas.com/petblog/index.cfm/id/cat_breeds

C++ is widely used in the software industry. Some of its application domains include systems software, application software, device drivers, embedded software, high-performance server and client applications, and entertainment software such as video games. Several groups provide both free and proprietary C++ compiler software, including the GNU Project, Microsoft, Intel, Borland and others.

The language began as enhancements to C, first adding classes, then virtual functions, operator overloading, multiple inheritance, templates, and exception handling among other features. After years of development, the C++ programming language standard was ratified in 1998 as ISO/IEC 14882:1998. That standard is still current, but is amended by the 2003 technical corrigendum, ISO/IEC 14882:2003. The next standard version (known informally as C++0x) is in development. http://koreanbio.org/Biosites/index.php/Catbreeds

C++ is a statically typed, free-form, multi-paradigm, compiled language where compilation creates machine code for a target machine hardware.

Java technology

Java technology has become a complete software ecosystem that represents different values to different types of consumer and business users. It offers developers a choice of three Java platform editions depending on the need:

Java technology in small and mobile devices
Java technology in PC desktops
Java technology in medium to large businesses

Sun Open Sources Java Platform Implementations

Sun open-sourced its implementation of the Java platform as free software. Get involved! Visit the three open-source Java communities that Sun is seeding and download the code: OpenJDK, Mobile & Embedded and the GlassFish community.

What can Java software do? Take a look at how Java technology is changing the world!

About Java Web Services

For consumers, Java technology is the first software technology that simply works without a struggle. Consumers are delighted to see applications run reliably and compatibly on such an incredible array of network products - from PCs, game players, and mobile phones to home appliances and automotive electronics. The Java brand has come to represent applications that are lively and interactive. A growing voice among consumers all over the globe actively prefers Java Powered applications and products.
http://catillness.today.com/2009/03/12/eye-pain

Java + You

For business, Java technology represents choice, performance, efficiency, and flexibility. The Enterprise Java platform serves as an end-to-end infrastructure that gives IT managers an extremely wide variety of compatible business logic applications, independent of their application server or portal server vendor - whether it is BEA, IBM, Oracle, or Sun. It significantly extends their reach and interactivity among employees, customers, and partners. Just as important, IT managers know there is a global ecosystem of Java developers, support engineers, and knowledge bases to reduce the risk and time to deployment as well as the ongoing cost of ownership and maintenance.
http://pieceoftexas.com/petblog/index.cfm/id/tooth_and_eye_pain

For developers, Java technology allows them to write software on one platform and run it on practically any other platform. It lets them create multi-threaded programs that run within Web browsers and Web services. Also, they can combine reusable Java objects to quickly create unique and highly customized server-side applications, such as online forums, stores, polls, HTML forms processing, and secure transactions. And of course, there's a support community of four milion fellow developers, thousands of independent developer web sites, hundreds of providers that support Java developers, and the Java Community Process (JCP.org).

Cat Grooming

Grooming should be an essential part of your cat’s life. If you begin when she is young, she will become accustomed to grooming early in life and it will be easier to groom her as she matures. She may resist at first, but will soon come to enjoy the extra holding and petting you give during grooming time.

For longhaired cats, a long-toothed metal comb and a stiff brush are best. First your should manipulate the hair coat against the way it lays so it is fluffy then brush in the direction of hair growth. Brush shorthaired cats with a soft rubber brush or hand mitt with short bristles. Longhaired cats should be brushed daily and shorthaired cats at least once or twice a week; to help control your cat’s shedding and help prevent hairballs.

A cat sheds to a certain degree all year long, but especially in the spring and fall. Brushing is particularly important during these seasons to help rid your cat’s coat of dead hair. A sleek, lustrous coat reflects the good nutrition and careful good care you give her. Make sure you have your grooming supplies ready when you first get your cat so she can become accustomed to them. - http://delicious.com/url/e7a82352a561dafaea66885beb8a9e2d

Hairballs

Cats usually do an excellent job of grooming themselves, but even the neatest cat can fall victim to troublesome hairballs. You may one day see him vomit a long, dark mass – commonly called a hairball – made up of hair your cat has ingested. Forming in your cat's stomach and intestine, hairballs can cause dehydration, weight loss, and intestinal obstruction, as well as hinder digestion and elimination. Signs or symptoms of hairballs include loss of appetite, chronic vomiting, sluggishness, and constipation. Both long and shorthaired cats can have hairballs and the best solution is prevention. You can help prevent or eliminate hairballs and shedding by careful and regular brushing and combing of your cat's coat. http://disqus.com/people/76f8ee0715e6e08a84dd19f8cef586c4

If hairballs continue to be a problem, remedies are available from your veterinarian and from most pet shops. There are some all natural hairball remedies you can try. Olive oil is said to help with hairballs. You can put 1/2 a tsp of olive oil in your cat's food dish. Some people recommend oily fish to prevent hairballs in their cats. Another trick is to put a small amount of petroleum jelly on the tip of your cat's nose and allow them to lick it off their nose. You may find this odd, however, the active ingredient in in petroleum jelly is petrolatum, which is actually the same active ingredient in many of the over the counter hairball remedies available in pet stores. If you have any concerns please consult your veterinarian before trying these natural hairball remedies.

Russian Blue Cats

What They’re Like to Live With:
Russian Blues are known for being both intelligent and independent. They are moderately active, and like to play. They are also very affectionate, and get along well with kids and other pets. Russian Blues become attached to family members, but can be shy with strangers. They don’t like changes in their routine or environment, and prefer a very clean litter box. They are generally quiet and easily trainable.

Things You Should Know:
Russian Blues are generally wary of strangers, and will hide when company comes over. This breed is fussy about its litter box, and wants it kept very clean. If the box is dirty, a Russian Blue may decide to eliminate elsewhere. Russian Blues can be very independent. The Russian Blue are not believed to be related to other short-coated blue breeds, like the Korat, Chartreux or the British Shorthair.

Russian Blue History:
The history of the Russian Blue is shrouded in mystery. Some believe the breed originated on the Archangel Isles in Northern Russia, and was brought to Europe by sailors in the 1800s. Legend states that the Russian Blue is a descendant of the royal cats owned by the Russian Czars. Originally called the Archangel Cat, the Russian Blue was first show in 1875 in England. It was first shown in its own class in 1912. In the early 1900s, the breed was imported into the United States. The Russian Blue was nearly lost during World War II as breeding came to a near stop. An attempt to save the breed started in the 1940s as breeders from different countries used other breeds to boost the waning gene pool. In the 1960s, a group of British breeders united to restore the Russian Blue to its original appearance, and worked to breed out the characteristics that resulted from these cross breedings. The breed was eventually recognized in the U.S. by the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA), The International Cat Association (TICA) and the American Cat Fancier’s Association (AFCA).

dog tooth health

Dog tooth health is a key issue when it comes to your canine friend, as your pets use their teeth a lot more than we do, for more than just chewing their food.

Generally dogs don't get cavities but they can occur if they eat soft food that can collect in their gums. That can lead to infection, which causes gums to soften and recede. If your dog's breath smells worse than normal, that could be an indication of a problem. Train your dog to open his mouth on command so you can inspect his teeth while he's still a puppy. If you wait until the dog is older to start checking his teeth the dog may not be a willing partner. http://hongri2000.wiki.zoho.com/cat-breeds.html

Dog teeth health issues include tartar buildup, which can happen if your dog is drinking hard water. Tartar buildup leads to gum disease and possible tooth loss. You can remove tartar buildup from your dog's teeth by using a three per cent hydrogen peroxide solution or a one per cent hydrochloric acid solution. Use a rag and rub the solution thoroughly on the teeth.
http://hongri2000.wiki.zoho.com

An easier way to avoid tartar buildup issues is to give your dog a raw marrow bone periodically. The gnawing motion and the thoroughness of the dog's attention to chewing and delight in the activity scrapes away tartar. It makes a mess and outside is the best place for a dog and a bone. Do not use cooked bones, which can easily splinter.

Even if your dog is no longer a puppy you can train them to accept having their teeth brushed with some patience and perseverance. Both dogs and puppies alike can be acclimated to having the toothbrush in their mouths simply by starting out using your finger and a dab of peanut butter.

As your pet licks your finger and the peanut butter, begin rubbing the teeth and gums while offering plenty of praise. After a day or so of this, or as soon as your dog begins accepting this new process, use a piece of gauze wrapped around your finger and do the same thing as above. Rub the gauze around the teeth and gums using a circular motion as you would with the toothbrush. Once they are used to this, it's time to introduce them to the real thing.

Never use toothpaste intended for humans on your dog as ingredients such as baking soda will upset their stomach. Also, dog toothpaste is specially formulated for their teeth and will have an appealing smell and taste to help make the process a bit easier. Start out by letting your dog lick a dollop of toothpaste off of the brush first, then use more to finally start brushing.

Lift the sides of your dog's gums so you can access their upper teeth, aptly called the canines, and hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle for the best results. This allows you to clean the gum line as well as the teeth to keep the gums equally as healthy. Brushing two to three teeth at a time, brush in a circular motion anywhere from eight to ten times or so in order to get each area clean. A dog's upper back teeth tend to be the most susceptible to decay and periodontal disease, so if anything, focus your efforts there first.

Dog teeth cleaning should always be a happy, positive event. However, you will want to remain upbeat, but also low-key to keep your dog on the same wavelength and from becoming overly excited. Usually no more than one minute or so is long enough before your dog loses interest, but after practicing for a bit, you'll find that that's all it takes to keep your dog's teeth clean, keeping them happy and healthy.

what is wiki

Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.
http://www.xomba.com/cat_breeds

Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.
http://catlifespan.ohlog.com/common-cat-disease.oh59308.html

Like many simple concepts, "open editing" has some profound and subtle effects on Wiki usage. Allowing everyday users to create and edit any page in a Web site is exciting in that it encourages democratic use of the Web and promotes content composition by nontechnical users.
http://users.search-o-rama.com/Article324233.htm

WikiWikiWeb was the first site to be called a wiki. Ward Cunningham started developing WikiWikiWeb in 1994, and installed it on the Internet domain c2.com on March 25, 1995. It was named by Cunningham, who remembered a Honolulu International Airport counter employee telling him to take the "Wiki Wiki" shuttle bus that runs between the airport's terminals. According to Cunningham, "I chose wiki-wiki as an alliterative substitute for 'quick' and thereby avoided naming this stuff quick-web."
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/User:Msary80

Cunningham was in part inspired by Apple's HyperCard. Apple had designed a system allowing users to create virtual "card stacks" supporting links among the various cards. Cunningham developed Vannevar Bush's ideas by allowing users to "comment on and change one another's text". In the early 2000s, wikis were increasingly adopted in enterprise as collaborative software. Common uses included project communication, intranets, and documentation, initially for technical users. Today some companies use wikis as their only collaborative software and as a replacement for static intranets, and some schools and universities use wikis to enhance group learning. There may be greater use of wikis behind firewalls than on the public Internet.

common dog training

Housetraining a puppy is important for both the puppy and the owner. Problems with housetraining and similar issues are the main reason that dogs are surrendered to shelters. So proper housetraining can literally save its life and make it easier on both of you. It is important to establish proper toilet habits when the puppy is still young. After all, it will be very difficult to break once they are established. In most cases, true housetraining cannot begin until the puppy is 6 months old. Puppies younger than 6 months generally lack the bowel and bladder control that is needed for true housetraining.
http://aolpsycho.disqus.com/aol_user_no_5066640_kylottery_25/

The best housetraining program uses the dog's own instincts to avoid soiling its bed and the places it shouldn't do its "business". That's the basis behind crate training. Crate training is where the dog is confined to its crate in the owner's absence. Den training is where the dog is confined to a small area in the home. Dogs are naturally clean animals and will try their best not to use the dens as toilets.
http://wiki.list.org/display/DEV/dog+health

This type of training usually works well for puppies or older dogs. The common problems from this type of toilet training are usually stem from not understanding the signals the dog is sending, inconsistent feeding times or trying to rush the process.

Do not rush!
Some dogs cannot be rushed through the housetraining process and you should consistently praise your dog for eliminating at the right place. It's always better to housetrain your dog properly the first time than having the trouble of retraining your dog.

If your dog continues to soil the den area after house training, this may be because the owner has left the dog in the den for too long and the dog has an "accident". Another reason may be because the den area is too large. In this case, you can either make the den area smaller or take the dog to the toilet area more frequently. Another reason could be that the dog has yet to adopt the area as the bed.

Urinary tract infections and other medical conditions could also cause dogs to soil their beds. Please do a thorough check-up by a veterinarian to rule out any medical conditions.

Even the most good-natured and 'submissive' of dogs can present training challenges at some point in your relationship with them. The key to overcoming these obstacles successfully is to understand, in a sense, what your dog “is thinking.”

The first thing to realize is that dogs possess not only instincts, but emotions. They may not feel with as much clarity or self-awareness as we do, but dogs do experience love, hate, fear, jealousy and more.

It is, therefore, up to you to be aware of your dog's 'state of mind' and work with it. Compassion and patience are necessary. The responsibility is is on you to provide comfort and correction without shaming or traumatizing your dog.

Problem #1: House-Training Issues

If you're dog is relieving himself at inappropriate times and places, he is most likely confused or frightened about some aspect of the process.

Dogs need routine and consistency, so the first question to ask is whether you are taking your out to use the restroom at the same times each day. If not, try to create a regular schedule and stick to it. This will train your dog to expect relief, lessen his anxiety, and learn to hold his movements.

The second question to ask if whether you are noticing your dog's “I need to go out” gestures. Dogs don't come to you knowing automatically how to scratch at the door. In puppy's, the most common sign of needing to use the restroom is 'sniffing around' behavior.

Yes, puppies seem to sniff everything anyways, but there is a difference when they need to go out. A puppy looking for a place to go will have his nose to the floor, as if searching for something, as he paces from one place to the next. This is the time to grab him and take him outside.

Finally, consider what you've been doing so far when your dog goes in the house. Do you hit, yell or otherwise punish him? If this is the case, stop immediately! This type of punishment is not effective and will only make your dog fearful of you.

Instead, work on praising your dog for a good job each time you take him out to use the restroom. If you catch him on the verge of going in the house, simply pick him up while saying “No!”, take him outdoors to finish, then praise him.

If it is too late to get him outside, take him anyways for a few minutes, but let the 'offense' go. You can not punish him after the fact, and he will not make the connection between your displeasure and his using the restroom indoors 5 minutes ago.
http://blogs.albawaba.com/msary80/73079/2009/04/12/130221-gallbladder-pain

Problem #2: Aggressive (and “passive”) Dominance Behavior

Some dogs express dominance through obvious means: a growl, an ignored command, a snap at another dog too close to his own toys and food. Other dogs, particularly smaller breeds, tend to dominate by manipulation . They'll whine or beg to be picked up, let onto the couch or given a table scrap.

In both cases, however, the remedy is the same: You need to show your dog that you are 'alpha', but do so in a way that helps him maintain a healthy sense of self-esteem.

Dog Grooming Tips

What is Dog Insurance? Dog Insurance is very similar to human health insurance which offers a range of programs tailored to suit the needs of domestic pets. While dog insurance remains a relatively underdeveloped product in North America, with less than 1% of all pets being insured, European levels of insured pets range from 12% to 50%.

Why do I need Dog Insurance? Advances in the field of animal medicine have been exponential in past decades allowing veterinarians to successfully treat conditions that were previously considered untreatable. However with these advances comes an escalating cost of veterinary care. It is estimated that North American pet guardians now spend over $10 billion a year on healthcare for their pets.

Consider these facts: One in three pets will need emergency veterinary treatment every year. Two out of every three pets experience a significant health problem during their lifetime.

Consider Your Dog's Body Weight
http://petwebsite.wetpaint.com

Underweight dogs: Feed your dog 1 1/2 times the "usual" amount of food and make an appointment to see your veterinarian about your dog's body condition. Consider switching to a food with higher protein and fat content.

Lean dogs: Many healthy dogs are a bit thin, especially active young male dogs. Consider increasing total daily food or caloric intake by 25 percent. Weigh your dog every week if possible to chart progress.

Chubby dogs: If your dog is a bit overweight, try increasing the daily exercise routine. Gradually increase exercise over 2 weeks unless limited by a medical condition. If these measures fail, cut out all treats and reduce daily intake of food by up to 25 percent. http://www.zenome.com/directory/index.php?parentID=009.053.999

Fat or obese dogs: Stop all treats except vegetables. Increase exercise gradually over 2 to 3 weeks if not limited by a medical condition. If these measures fail, reduce the total daily food amount by 25 to 40 percent, switch to a low fat/high fiber diet, and call your veterinarian to discuss your plans. Inquire about prescription-type reduction diets that can really be effective while providing balanced nutrition.
