The latest baseball news

Right-hander Kyle Kendrick's throwing error while trying to go for the lead runner on a sacrifice bunt attempt in the the eighth inning opened the door for two runs that proved to be the difference in the Norfolk Tides' 3-1 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park tonight.

Kendrick (4-5) actually went on to complete the game but was forced to absorb the loss after giving up six hits and two walks while lowering his earned run average to 3.77.

The Pigs mustered just five hits off Norfolk starter David Pauley and none off relievers Bob McCrory and Alberto Castillo.
